("Big A, little a, what begins with A?")

Two non-Seuss books I loved (and still do!) -->

“The Monster at The End of This Book (Starring Lovable, Furry Old Grover)”, written by Jon Stone and illustrated by Mike Smollin. Grover tries to do things like tie the pages together and build brick walls to keep the reader from turning pages, because there is a monster at the end of the book and he’s scared. When you get to the end, Grover turns out to be the monster, of course, but he tries to save face by saying, “I TOLD you and TOLD you there was nothing to be afraid of.” :)

“Spectacles” by Ellen Raskin. It’s a fun little story about a nearsighted girl named Iris Fogel who sees things like a fire-breathing dragon that turns out to be her great aunt. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21528753.post-69750131844187080252009-06-19T13:55:14.900-05:002009-06-19T13:55:14.900-05:00Since I'm the one reading them for the 1st 5 y...Since I'm the one reading them for the 1st 5 years, I stick to books I enjoy reading out loud.

Dr. Suess is at the top of my list. As well as authors in the Dr. Suess 'franchise' like P.D Eastman.

I also enjoy Eric Carle books for his wonderful illustrations.

I avoid like the plague all trendy books like Disney books and Dora the Explorer type stuff.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21528753.post-70832818259017739002009-06-19T10:47:10.037-05:002009-06-19T10:47:10.037-05:00As for Dr. Suess, Helen LOVES The Foot Book. Right now (she's almost 3) she's really in to The Berenstain Bears (which I really like too because they usually have some kind of lesson), If I had a Dragon, Baby Shoes, all of Doreen Cronin's books and, of course, her Beginner's Bible (which we read at least one story from every day).

We love to read and even Patrick (3 months old) seems to listen and pay attention during reading time.Kristinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03219487185122225081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21528753.post-73117724532942075182009-06-18T13:25:36.025-05:002009-06-18T13:25:36.025-05:00Found it, Jess.
