A good note and a not so good note

Last night I realized that given the recent skills I have acquired, I can now call myself an amateur metalsmith. How cool is that?? *grin*

On a less than positive note, here's a question for you. I see so much disrespect being thrown around regarding spouses (most of it I see these days is women disrespecting their husbands or other various men in their lives). My question is when did men cease to be our respected spouses and instead become our lap dogs that we "punish" into "good behavior"?

Here's what I have to say about that: *GAAAAAAAG*

I realize that the women's rights movement did a lot of good. A lot. But is it possible that too much "empowerment" has served to sway us a little too far in the opposite direction? What, are we "getting back at them" now?

Again: *GAAAAAG*

I don't think it was the women's rights movements that made SOME women nasty towards their spouses. I think that has always been.

However, the internet is a great place for people who WANT to do this to do it anonymously and often. As a matter of fact, I think a lot of the message boards are just made for complaining. I even found a Mother In Laws complaining about their "evil daughter in laws" message board once.

However, I find it totally distasteful when women really complain about their husbands all the time. Once in a while is fine, but all the time??

Well said Crystal. Look at any sitcom on tv nowadays. The men are bumbling idiots whose wives are always telling them they're stupid. The women are domineering shrews who pretty much contantly holler at anyone in their path. Seems harsh maybe, but it's masked by mean-spirited jokes made at the expense of the ones they "love" and it seems okay.
Wow...that comment turned into a rant LOL sorry. =)
I liked your's that? =)

Heidi - totally. Everyone needs to vent once in a while, but is a very public place the right place for it? I mean, especially on the internet, there will always be a record of that for ANYone to see. Friends, family, bosses, coworkers, clients... it's out there for anyone to read. I think people forget that.

Sandy - Rant away, dear! *grin* I'm with you completely. While I enjoy sitcoms, that is the thing that sickens me about them... how the husband is *always* portrayed. Women in sitcoms went from doormat Suzie Homemaker to exactly what you said, "domineering shrews". But I guess aside from s*x and violence, that's what sells.

Hi Crystal--

I can't stand to hear anyone badmouthing their spouses...which is why I don't hang around too much with my neighbors, The Desperate Housewives. They actually all pretty much have decent husbands, but you'd never know it by listening to them.

If someone has a problem and needs help working through it, I am more than happy to help talk them through things, but to just sit there and rag about your spouse for entertainment is nauseating to me.

Great post!!
