This Dude Rocks

I think he's my new hero.

Excerpt from YouTube:

"Jay Whaley, a goldsmith and university instructor from San Diego, demonstrates the process of making a silver bezel from rough-poured ingot through smooth-finished bezel."

Dude does this in a mere 2 minutes, 35 seconds. Is that cool, or is that cool?! The big tool he uses to draw the wire is called a rolling mill, one of the three biggies on my wish list. Only his rolling mill is probably one of the ones that costs more than I make in a year.

The stuff heroes are made of. If you're a metal head like yours truly, I mean. *wink*

I think if that fire torch were in my hands, it wouldn't even take 2 minutes and 35 seconds before I had some kind of accident with it! :) I have a question, how can he torch that wire and then pick it up like he's doing? Isn't it hot or is he just used to it?

I've been watching some woodworking videos and I can't believe what some people can do in a few minutes that takes me all day, if I can do it at all!!!!

Oh it's hot... when you anneal metal, you heat it to red hot and then quench it. Annealing it makes it soft, quenching it in water cools it off instantly. You can see him quench it in that little metal bowl after he fires it. :o)

Quenching is fun... it makes a tsssssssssst! sound. :oP

So when he was done, where was the butter? Wasn't that what he was churning?
